TK03010086 – Development of technical-economic scenarios for transformation of the Czech heating sector

The project deals with the current state and the future of the Czech district heating industry. The project will yield three outcomes: a methodology for assessing the industry‘s resilience (outcome V1); a multi-layered map of district heating sites (V2); and a database of Czech heating industry (V3). The analysis will establish criteria to evaluate the current state of the industry (leading to V3 and contributing to V1 and V2); investigate factors which will determine its future development (e.g. environmental requirements, economic sustainability and social acceptability) and formulate scenarios of this development and visualized them in a map (V2). Finally, the data input and the scenario analysis will be used for building the methodology (V1) and formulating policy recommendations.

The project is carried out in collaboration with the Masaryk University – Faculty of Social Studies. The duration of the project is from 7/2020 to 6/2023.

TK03010078 – Research of the applicability of energy storage using P2G technologies

The project deals with the integration of P2G technology into the Czech energy industry, primarily by using surplus energy from renewable sources (RES). The increasing amount of RES in the energy system (ES) implies the need to deploy new technologies in order to maintain safe and reliable ES operation. However, from a certain installed capacity of RES, it is no longer possible to consume the electricity produced and it is desirable to store it. It can be stored by transformation in to chemical energy, in this case synthetic methane or hydrogen. Both gases can be mixed with natural gas. The research will determine the specifics of deployment of P2G technology, possibilities of electricity generation from RES, readiness of technical infrastructures and graphical output of suitable locations.

The project is carried out in collaboration with the Brno University of Technology – Faculty of Chemistry and Czech Gas Association. The duration of the project is from 7/2020 to 12/2022.
